A text file named .htaccess (with no file extension) is placed in the website root directory to provide instructions to the web server. In MediaWiki installations this file is used to produce Short URLs.
Note: The category name cannot be .htaccess because names must be letters, and could not be simply htaccess because the first letter would be capitalised. So for indexing purposes the category has been named File htaccess.
